Why is this newsletter called AI, the Mule?
Because it’s true: Artificial intelligence isn’t intelligent.
- It doesn’t understand what it does.
- It doesn’t reason.
- It doesn’t decide.
When AI does something well, it’s because someone thought it through first.
That’s why I say AI is a mule.
- A mule like that noble, strong, patient animal… but one that won’t move unless you guide it.
- A mule like a tool that only works if you know how to use it.
- A mule like that statistic that brags about precision without understanding the problem.
What you need to know
Behind every AI that answers well, there’s work:
- Someone has to teach it who it represents.
- Someone has to show it how your company speaks.
- Someone has to decide what it should say — and what it shouldn’t.
- Someone has to prepare examples, instructions, and limits.
- Someone has to support it with structure, memory, and real testing.
It doesn’t matter how powerful the model is if no one’s guiding it.
It’s design, trial, and error. It’s training.
What’s this newsletter for?
To show you exactly that:
- How to turn a clueless assistant into a useful tool for your business.
- How to make the mule work in your favor.
